Explore nature in Greater Sydney Parklands

On the heels of its successful online engagement in From Swamp to Scrub that has entertained more than 25,000 participants in science week and will remain online throughout the NSW school holidays, Greater Sydney Parklands has developed more live nature inspired sessions online, including its popular Bush School.

Providing fun and educational activities for the whole family to try in their own backyard, among new program offerings are a Shelter Challenge where children will understand the foundations of building both a Tarp Shelter and Debris Shelter. and

Tracks, and Trails & Treasure Hunt invites participants to develop their skills in observation and investigation to identify some of the feathered and furry neighbours found in our parklands and in our neighbourhoods.

Other virtual experiences include Bush Chef Online where participants will explore Fire, Damper, Butter & Jam with the ‘Wild Chef’ Ranger Alasdair and Wednesday Bush School where participants will learn about bats, whales and wallabies.

There will be a theatrical performance, Snugglepot & Cuddlepie and the program concludes with Friday Bush Craft where participants will learn how to make strong rope from natural materials and try their hand at wood carving.

Virtual Excursions

Also coming up from the Education Team at Greater Sydney Parklands are six Virtal Excursions for students in Term 4 designed to get students back into nature.

A highlight is a special new experience for secondary students: Mindful Nature.

Join experienced nature educators for half an hour of storytelling, connection, movement, and meditation and feel the healing effects of mindfulness! They will lead you through a session that will create space in young people’s minds to be able to expand afterwards.

Young people will benefit from these tools and the simple practice of bringing a gentle, accepting attitude to the present moment. It will also help parents and caregivers by promoting happiness and relieving stress.
