Maker Projects – Community STEM Engagement

Funding will support hands-on science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM) experiences that encourage young people to build skills and be creative and entrepreneurial.

The projects focus on engaging young Australians from diverse backgrounds and those underrepresented in STEM. In total, 26 projects will share $1,996,263.

Hunter Innovation and Science Hub

TechCreate Girls Program

The project empowers high school girls to explore STEM through creative disciplines like digital art and wearable tech, using skills such as coding, 3D printing, and laser cutting to inspire innovation.

The University Of Newcastle

SMART (Science, Maths and Real Technology) Program

The project offers after-school workshops for 8–12-year-olds, exploring various STEM topics. In 2025-2026, it will expand to four Lake Macquarie libraries to address the local STEM activity gap.

Australian Business and Community Network

STEM Innovators

The project aims to empower female students in Years 7 and 8 from low socio-economic backgrounds, focusing on STEM skills like coding, problem-solving, and research.

Passionately Curious Science

Connecting Uni Research & Innovative Outreach for Underrepresented Students

The project delivers 72 workshops to over 2,000 students in regional NSW, focusing on wet-lab science, computational labs, and inquiry-based learning. It aims to inspire STEM in low socio-educational and Indigenous communities.

Intrix Cyber Security

Cyber Innovators: Empowering CALD Youth Through Hands-On STEM Education

The project equips 400 CALD students with cybersecurity skills through workshops and hackathons, fostering a cyber-literate, future-ready workforce.

Arludo

Student Conservation Challenge: saving Australia’s terrestrial critters

The Project empowers students to design conservation plans for Australian invertebrates, conduct experiments, and develop STEM skills like critical thinking and scientific inquiry.

Tuggerah Lakes Community College

Stem Youth At Risk

The project takes disadvantaged youth to Canberra for 3-4 days of STEM activities, including excursions to Questacon, Mt Stromlo Observatory, and Geoscience.
