2026 National Science Week Major Funding
About the program
Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified event providers to deliver a major event or event series as part of National Science Week, from 15–23 August 2026.
Proposed events and activities should showcase science and technology, celebrate the achievements of NSW scientists, target the general public and broader community, and attract large audience numbers.
Grant details
- Grant amount: Up to $15,000 (one-off funding)
- Who can apply: Community groups and organisations based in NSW
- Eligible activities: Events or activities delivered during National Science Week 2026
Key dates
- Applications open: Tuesday 18 March 2026
- Applications close: Friday 17 April 2026
- Successful applicants announced: 28 May 2026
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate:
- Proven experience in attracting the target audience
- A clear plan for how NSW scientists will be incorporated into the event program
- Capacity to professionally manage live events (and digital events, if proposed)
- Capacity to manage and acquit grant funds
- Willingness to work collaboratively with other providers and the NSW science community
- Knowledge of, and existing relationships with, the NSW science sector
- A plan for evaluating the impact of the proposed activity
- A realistic estimate of the intended reach of the activity
- A plan for managing risk
Selection criteria
National Science Week events (in-person, online, or hybrid) must meet at least two of the following criteria
- Inspire young people to pursue an interest in science
- Encourage local community participation and ongoing engagement in science
- Provide opportunities for scientists and researchers to present to the public
- Demonstrate diversity and inclusion in programming and audience reach
- Celebrate Australian scientific achievements, past and present
- Build scientific and digital literacy in Australian communities
- Expand existing STEM networks and partnership opportunities
