The Bee-rilliant Bee Musical

Join in with this playful, musical celebration of bees, pollination, and the magic of nature. Combining science, theatre, and hands-on fun, this interactive show invites families to sing, dance, and create insect art from fruit, veg, and origami.

Bring a picnic, relax on the lawn, and enjoy STEAM like you’ve never seen before – where everyone can BEE a scientist!

1 – 2pm on Saturday 16 August at Blackheath Presbyterian Church Hall

See like a bee in UV!

In this fun, hands-on workshop with Dr Amelie Vanderstock (Amelie Ecology), kids will explore how native bees see the world, communicate through dance, and help our environment. Through music, movement, art, and outdoor discovery, children will learn to spot pollinator-friendly plants and create their own bee-friendly spaces.

A playful, creative way to connect with nature and explore science—no lab coats required!

10 – 11am on Saturday 16 August at Bates Hall Blackheath

Can you use a balloon to lift up a glass bottle?

Can you make a normal pencil look like a broken pencil when it was in the glass of water?

This event is a family event where there is many fun activities to be follow.

  • Creative art depicting use of science in our daily life
  • Science quotes in calligraphy
  • Creative performances to create awareness about different aspects of science
  • Drama on theme of Agriculture

Marine Rescue: The Science Behind Saving Lives at Sea

This family-friendly event delves into the scientific principles underpinning marine rescue operations. Attendees can participate in activities such as rescuing a model whale, knot-tying competitions, and exploring underwater drones. The event also features insights into the chemistry of distress flares and the physics of personal flotation devices, with contributions from marine rescue volunteers and experts in marine and earth systems science.

Ever wondered how people are rescued at sea—or how science helps save lives? Find out at Marine Rescue: The Science Behind Saving Lives at Sea! Over two action-packed Saturdays for National Science Week.

10am – 3pm on 9 & 16 August at Marine Rescue Port Macquarie Boat Shed

Soccer Robots at the Newcastle Museum

In this exciting hands-on workshop, you and your team will take on the role of robotics engineers, programmers, and strategists to bring these robotic players to life. These fundamental concepts will help children understand how our growing world of technology works and give them the confidence to be creators rather than just consumers of technology.

11:45am – 1:15pm & 1:45pm – 3:15pm on Saturday 16 August at the Newcastle Museum

Hunter Science Festival 2025

Get ready for a jam-packed day of science fun at the Hunter Science Festival during National Science Week 2025! Experience hands-on activities for all ages, including building and racing solar cars and boats, exploring the HMRI Poo Palace, climbing aboard a real garbage truck, and discovering your environmental footprint.

Enjoy science shows, meet local scientists, and take part in interactive exhibits from organisations like Hunter Water, Irukanji Shark & Ray Centre, Hunter Astronomical Society, and many more. Relax with LEGO®, grab a free plant, and refuel with tasty treats from the BBQ or KT Bakes Cakes. Bring the family, your curiosity, and a picnic for an unforgettable day on the Museum Lawn!

10:00am – 2:00pm on Sunday 17 August at the Newcastle Museum

South Coast

Jervis Bay Maritime Museum

The desire to ‘decode’ or explain the world around us is universal – the question of ‘why?’ is asked everyday by children to scientists and everyone in between. At the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum 2025 Science Week events you can ‘explore the unknown’ under the sea, ‘decode’ environment abstract data and discover ‘nature’s hidden language’ in microscopic detail.

Saturday 16 August at Jervis Bay Maritime Museum

Parasite Pandemic

Parasite Pandemic combines interactive science games and activities aimed at sparking interest in the study of parasites. It also aims to provide participants with insights into how scientists tackle global health challenges more broadly.

Are you ready to save humankind from a rapidly spreading parasite pandemic? Step inside the ‘A Race for the Antidote’ Escape Room; visit a Parasite Zoo packed with live and preserved specimens; identify and avoid parasitic infections through virtual reality; meet real-world parasitologists; and explore the fictional world of Manga characters with parasitic mutations.
