Riverina Science Festival

Community members in and around Wagga Wagga will again be treated to a stellar lineup of free science activities presented across the region as part of the Riverina Science Festival. Now in its sixth year, the Festival has grown its partner base with fourteen organisations coming together to celebrate science in the Riverina this August.

With nine separate activity areas, there is something for all ages. Be entertained by interactive live science shows presented by Dr Rina Fu and the TwistED Science Crew, or make your own gooey slime or super bouncy balls. Discover virtual reality technologies with SciVR Science and Headset Holodeck.

Create a post-apocalyptic guitar in an exclusive workshop or be a code maker at the Mbot Spot. Design parasites, discover microscopic worlds and engage with all kinds of scientific wonder.

Highlight events

Nightlights Digital Amination- Future World
Every evening you can see – animator Alice Peacock’s whimsical vision of the future will be screened two stories high on the side of the side of the Civic Centre.

Life on the Levee
Join us for this low-impact walk on Sunday 12 August will take in a 1.5km stretch of the levee bank. Discover the abundance of flora and fauna that live and thrive in the heart of our city at the edge of the Murrumbidgee River.

NISEP Community Science Day
Modelled on Macquarie University’s National Indigenous Science Experience at Redfern, participants in this wonderful event on Monday 12 August will experience a range of hands-on science activities demonstrated by Indigenous secondary students, along with Indigenous Elders and Charles Sturt University Scientists.

Kitchen Science Storytime
On Wednesday August 14 and Friday August 16 the ever popular Kitchen Science Storytime will be held in the Children’s Area of the Wagga Wagga City Library, a perfect event for inquisitive pre-schoolers.

Quiet Science
Shhhh… Dr Fu will be presenting three sessions of accessible science experiences designed for people on the autism spectrum on Thursday 15 August.

Bust the Myth of the Mad Scientist
On Friday 16 August Dr Fu will take participants on an interactive hands-on journey, engaging with science and providing a glimpse into the fascinating life of a biomedical research scientist.

Future World. Future World
The future’s so bright you gotta wear shades! The regions National Science Week celebrations will culminate on Saturday 17 August with a massive family science day that will see the Wagga Wagga Civic Centre transformed into a hands-on Science Hub.
