Science for all in Armidale

The Shell Questacon Science Circus will visit the the New England region in November, teaming up with University of New England (UNE) Discovery for an epic week of science for everyone! People of all ages will have a chance to ignite their curiosity, get hands on with science concepts and equipment, and learn more about our world.

From Monday 4 November – Friday 8 November, the Science Circus will be in primary and secondary schools in the region, presenting engaging science shows. Students will discover concepts like bubbles, liquid nitrogen and the science of slime in a range of interactive sessions.

Far out science

From Thursday 7 November – Friday 9 November the Science Circus will pair up for the first time with Far Out Science, UNE’s flagship outreach and engagement program.

Visiting the UNE Campus in Armidale, students will have an opportunity to take on experimental challenges and get to see what happens in real university science laboratories, joining scientists at the forefront of research and education.

From understanding how chemistry is used in our everyday lives to concocting the creams and potions sold in a pharmacy, students will explore the relevance of science to everyday life.

They will also get a chance to discover how science is used to check your vitals with nursing, test your physical prowess in the sport science exercise labs, connect your neural pathways in neuroscience as well as discovering many other amazing things about scientific discovery across the disciplines of ecology, psychology, physics and agriculture.

Adults Only – A Night at the Boilerhouse

A highlight of the jam-packed week of science outreach and discovery will be a night for adults at the UNE Boilerhouse running from 6.30pm.

All welcome to attend an amazing STEAM-punk themed night, full of interactive science activities, facilitated by UNE Discovery and Questacon.

There will be live music, science-themed food and beverages, and aerial silk performances, all at the emerging flagship STEM precinct, the Boilerhouse at UNE.

Pop up science centre

Over the weekend, community members are invited each day from 10 am to 3 pm to attend the Shell Questacon Science Centre Pop-up Science Centre trhat will be held at the Campbell Hall at SportUNE. Spin yourself until you’re dizzy, compare your reflexes to a Formula 1 driver and see your fingertips under the microscope as the Science Circus and UNE Discovery come together for a weekend of science fun!

Campbell Hall at SportUNE will be overflowing with exciting hands-on science exhibits when the Science Circus’s colourful semi-trailer rolls into town for an exhibition of the ‘pop-up’ science centre. Visitors of all ages can enjoy over 40 interactive science exhibits and watch spectacular science shows as presenters lie on a bed of nails and levitate beach balls.
