A new chapter for Inspiring Australia NSW

Volunteers 2024

Change and transition are inherently bittersweet, exciting in their promise of new opportunities, yet tinged with sadness as we leave behind what is familiar. As Inspiring Australia NSW moves from its long-standing host, the University of Sydney Faculty of Science’s Partner Engagement and Outreach team , to its new host at Science Space at the University of Wollongong, there is both a sense of gratitude for the past and excitement for the future.

The program has thrived under the University of Sydney’s leadership, managed by Jasmine Chambers, Kristl Mauropoulos and then Kristin Anderson over the 13 years. They all supported a dynamic culture of community science engagement, collaboration and creativity. Now, as we embark on this next chapter at Wollongong, new possibilities emerge—fresh partnerships, expanded reach, and innovative approaches to science outreach.

The longevity of the Hub network in NSW has been one of our greatest achievements, and in 2024 Inspiring NSW was pleased to celebrated 10 years of the NSW Regional Science Hub network! More than 20 Regional Science Hubs have provided innovative science engagement to local communities in regional NSW since 2014. Watch some of the highlights below.

An independent executive committee has also been integral to the success and stability of Inspiring NSW, and the current committee that has been working with both host organisations to ensure the transition to a new host happens smoothly. Please read the statement on behalf of the committee from Emily Jateff, the Chair of the Inspiring NSW Committee.

The Inspiring NSW Executive Committee is excited to work with the host institution University of Wollongong to continue and build on the success of annual National Science Week programs and our Regional Science Hub network. The committee is looking forward to generating high levels of regional engagement through this partnership.  The committee would also like to acknowledge the exemplary guidance and support of the previous host institution, the University of Sydney”.

While change can feel like a farewell, it is also a doorway to growth, ensuring that the mission of Inspiring Australia continues to evolve and inspire in exciting new ways. We look forward to the next chapter for Inspiring NSW at the University of Wollongong.

A huge thank you goes to Jackie Randles, whose dedication and vision as the inaugural manager of Inspiring NSW have played a pivotal role in shaping its success today. Her leadership has left a lasting impact, and her contributions have been invaluable in building a strong foundation for the program’s future.

Thank you for everything,

Meredith and Karen
