National Science Week runs from 15 to 23 August 2026 and a national pub trivia campaign is being rolled out. Tailored science trivia rounds featuring Aussie innovations, science-at-the-movies and adults-only trivia are free to access. Pubs and trivia companies across Australia are integrating these questions into their weekly quizzes throughout the month of August.
Whether you want to hunt down a hosted event or run a DIY session yourself, here is how you can participate:
Get your local pub on board: Have a chat with your local pub or venue and encourage them to host a National Science Week-themed trivia session. It is a fantastic way for them to draw a crowd while celebrating science in a relaxed, fun environment.
DIY Trivia at home or work: Prefer to run the show yourself? You can use our tailored Science Week questions to easily host your own trivia session at home with friends, or battle it out in the office.
Access the Questions: Official question banks (four rounds of 10 questions) can be downloaded via the National Science Week Pub Trivia portal.
Alternative Formats: If you are hosting a workplace or school event, you can register for the National Science Week Brain Break program, which provides 80 trivia questions and an audio round.
The questions were developed by staff at Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra. Questacon staff are passionate about science, and science communication… and many of them are pub-trivia regulars themselves! All the questions have been fact-checked and include references if you’d like to find more information.
