From 19-21 May, Australia’s first Pint of Science festival will host science events at three Sydney pubs, joining global colleagues in the UK, USA, France and Switzerland to present science in the pub.
The format is simple: down-to-earth talks by top scientists in the most relaxed setting possible – the pub! The festival aims to showcase the best of local research to the general public. That means you can expect events that are free of jargon, but full of fun!
Coming to Australia for the first time, the Pint of Science festival will be examining three themes: Matters of the Mind (all about the brain), Our Body (all about the body), and Atoms to Galaxies (Physics, Engineering, and Chemistry).
Among confirmed speakers are Dr Dev Banerjee (Sex, violence & driving – all in your sleep!) Dr Stuart Thickett (Pulling Water Out of Thin Air) and Dr. Tom Cresswell (Throw Another Prawn on the Barbie…But Check its Hepatopancreas First!).
With a growing line up of entertaining scientists on the bill, there is sure to be something for everyone. Whether you’re a total nerd or simply enjoy a bit of a natter over some liquid refreshment, these talks will engage you with fascinating stories, discoveries and fun facts to amaze your mates. We look forward to seeing you there.
Tickets are free and will be available at the end of April from the Pint of Science website.
Dr Caroline McCulley has a PhD in neuroscience and is coordinating the Sydney chapter of the Pint of Science festival in her spare time, with a lot of help from the event teams. Follow her on Twitter @pintofscienceau or like facebook.com/pintofscienceau.
