Science After Dark – five nights of Sydney events for Science Week

Science after Dark

Inspiring Australia NSW has teamed up with Future Science Talks for five nights of shows to celebrate scientific achievement as part of 2025 Science Week.

Titled ‘Science After Dark’, this science and arts festival is spread across Sydney, with events taking place from Sunday 10 August to Friday 15 August.

Tickets to the events are free – with up to 70 tickets per night.

The first night Improv X Science on Sunday August 10 was sold out, and feauted scientists Tom England, Riley Easton and Sam Hansen, plus comedians sourced from the Improv Comedy Cagefight sharing stories to a packed house.

“Scientists are one of the few professions whose roles involve traveling around the world to give public talks about their endeavours, and this means they often have very good storytelling skills,”

“We’ve been working with scientists and academics for the past few years to improve these skills and give them new platforms to tell their stories, such as in comedy shows and talks,” said the Director of Future Science Talks, Dave Crisante.

Riley Easton, a PhD Candidate at UTS who works on viral infections, said the Sunday night was a great way to share what he does with a new audience.

“It was a blast working with comedians to show the audience in a very compelling and humorous way what everyday life is like for someone who works in a lab,” he said.

Science After Dark has been made possible thanks to a Science Week Grant through Inspiring Australia NSW.

“It’s fantastic to connect science professionals with their local communities across Sydney as part of Science Week,”

“We are looking forward to the shows and can’t wait to see audiences enjoying science stories being told in new and dynamic ways,” said Inspiring Australia NSW Manager Meredith Hall.
